Zayn Malik Addresses One Direction Departure

Zayn Malik has left One Direction – something that his fans aren’t exactly thrilled over. Now, he is opening up in a new interview about leaving the boy band that made him a household name.

Speaking in an interview with The Sun newspaper in the U.K., Malik said that leaving the group has left him “feeling quite interesting.”

If you’re curious as to whether or not he has regretted his decision to leave One Direction, he doesn’t. He said, “It is crazy and wild and a bit mad. But at the same time I’ve never felt more in control in my life. And I feel like I’m doing what’s right – right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel good.”

He quit the group amid rumors and speculation that he was cheating on his fiance Perrie Edwards. He says that they are still together and she is “very supportive” of his decision to quite One Direction. He said, “My band has been really supportive. They’ve been cool about it. And they understand that, you know, it’s not real to me anymore.”

The decision to leave the band wasn’t something that happened over night, either. He said that he’s wanted out for quite some time now. He said, “I did try to do something that I wasn’t happy doing for a while, for the sake of other people’s happiness.”

Since leaving the band, Zayn Malik has been spotted going into a recording studio, leading his fans to ask if he’s gearing up to release a solo album. Still, he worries that he’s letting his fans down. He added, “I feel like I’ve let the fans down but I can’t do this anymore. It’s not that I’ve turned my back on them or anything, it’s just that I just can’t do that anymore because it’s not the real me.”

And there you have it.
