The mother of Angelina Jolie’s adopted daughter Zahara wants the child returned to Ethiopia, according to an In Touch Weekly report. Angelina has always stated that Zahara is an AIDS orphan, but the adoption papers clearly state that she has a grandmother and extended family living in Ethiopia.

Mentewab Dawit Lebiso claims toshe handed over her daughter when she became “overwhelmed” but would love to be reunited with her. The two year old’s biological mother also adds she never signed the papers giving up Zahara.

“I want my daughter to come home to see where she is from. Her grandmother and I both tried very hard to raise her to come home to regain her identity,” said the 24-year-old.

Mentewab claims she became pregnant after she was raped by a stranger who broke into her home.

“I thought the baby was going to die because there was no food, so I ran away.”

The birth family claim they were mislead by local officials who told them they would see the baby again and keep in contact but that never happened.

“[Angelina] believes that Zahara is an orphan and the woman who claims to be her mum is mistaken. Government papers said Zahara was an Aids orphan and Angie had no reason to believe otherwise,” a Jolie mole says.

“Zahara was days away from death and Angelina saved that child. As far as she is concerned, that bonded her to that little girl forever.”
