You all need to calm down.
Just because he was in HSM, Hairspray, etc. doesn’t mean he can’t do POTC films.
He’s a good actor imo. Just look at how good he was in 17 Again.
Atleast give the guy a chance. He said he wants to get away from the musical stuff and get into more serious movies.
Stop complaining and just deal with it.

I’m not saying zac efron is a bad actor or anything, but you just DON’T make a pirates movie without Depp. He IS jack sparrow! its like replacing Sylvester Stallone with owen wilson (i’m not saying one is better than the other, they’re just so different in every way. Zac shouldn’t leave his 12 year old girl audience for a while. He’s just not ready for adult roles

OMG People give the guy a chance! I mean seriously, talk about type casting an actor!!! I don’t look forward to the induction of Zac Efron into the POTC universe, but I don’t know his whole acting range either! You really can’t judge an actor by one set of ridiculously popular movies he’s been in. I mean look at Depp, he’s brilliant in so many movies, obviously the dirty pirate, but he’s also been in sweet movies like Benny and Joon, Finding Neverland; he was genius in Secret Window, and OH YEA, he was a musical actor as well in Sweeny Todd!!! You really have to get over this whole stereotyped bullshit and give the kid a chance… maybe he can bring something to add to the franchise we have all come to love so much.
