Is Zac Efron hanging up his dancing shoes for a voyage out to sea? The 21-year-old High School Musical alum has reportedly signed a $10 million deal to star alongside Golden Globe-nominated actor Johnny Depp in the upcoming fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.

According to the National Enquirer, executives at Disney first approached Zac about accepting a small role in the eagerly-awaited feature last year after it appeared that Johnny would not agree to film a fourth Pirates film.

“Zac was extremely interested,” says a source.

Although the original Captain Jack Sparrow himself is now on board for more swashbuckling, Disney still wants to groom a successor for Depp. That’s where Zac comes in.

The $10 million payday will make Zac Johnny Depp’s heir in the Pirates series. This way, the studio will always have a pirate on standby just in case Depp one day decides he does not want to continue with the franchise, the tabloid claims.

Disney, what are you thinking? Pirates of the Caribbean is NOT a teenage heart throb movie. Didn’t you get that with the whole Will Turner and Elizabeth side story? People didn’t watch the PoTC movies to watch Will and Elizabeth; they wanted to see Captain Jack and Barbossa square off. And if you had to pare it down to a single most important character, it would obviously be Captain Jack. Adding Zac to the cast is going to give the movie a cutsie “OMG you noob” feel to it. Bring him back and explore that a bit more. I read a rumor that either Russell Brand or Sacha Baron Cohen might be approached to play Captain Jack’s brother. That’s sheer genius! Please don’t pollute an otherwise great franchise by trying to change its audience demographic entirely. No teen idols in PoTC. Give Captain Jack some room to express his adult humor and explore his relationships with some gritty and half crazy family members, played by (adult) comedy or rock stars.

I can see what Disney probably has in their minds at this point:

Truth is, it ain’t gonna fly. I think Disney fails to realize that POTC fans and HSM fans don’t get along. Bringing Zac in is just going to turn off all of the POTC fans. I mean, really, the last thing we want in the Pirates fandom is to have everyne burst out singing “A Pirates Life For Me” or “Hoist The Colours” with dancing to match.

Although I must admit I was waiting for it to happen when watching the beginning of At World’s End.

Anyway, in conclusion: ZAC EFRON IS NOT WELCOME IN THE PIRATES FANDOM. EVER.
