YouTube Music Awards Debuts Next Month
YouTube is launching its own music awards.
It was only a matter of time: From Justin Bieber to Psy, YouTube has launched artists that once might never have reached an audience outside of their own hometowns.
The inaugural YouTube Music Awards will honor “artists and songs that YouTube fans have turned into global hits over the past year,” the Google Inc.-owned company announced Tuesday. Lady Gaga, Eminem and Arcade Fire will be among the performers at the Nov. 3 event.
The show, hosted by comedian Jason Schwartzman, will air live from New York’s Pier 36 — on YouTube, of course. Seven awards will be handed out based solely on online voting. Nominees will be announced Oct. 17.
