On Friday, singer-actress Jennifer Lopez confirmed that she will be leaving American Idol in an interview with the show’s host, Ryan Seacrest. After months of speculation about her future with the program, a tearful JLo told Ry that she is in fact making her exit from the show after two seasons as a judge.
There has been much speculation about the news, with JLo dropping subtle hints over the last few months. On Thursday, she all but confirmed to NBC’s Today Show that she has worn out her welcome on the aging singing competition.
“I think it’s time for me to go,” the songstress revealed when questioned on the morning show on whether she’d be back for Idol’s 2013 season. “It’s a huge decision, but I have to say there are so many things I do that I put on hold for that. It’s a heartbreaking decision if I have to go.”
Hot off the heels of JLo’s announcement, her fellow sophomore Idol judge Steven Tyler confirmed his departure from the series. In a statement issued by Fox, Steven vowed to turn his focus back to his “first love, Aerosmith” — the rock band his fronted since 1977.
