Add Brigitte Nielsen to the treasure trove of ladies once sperminated by the Terminator. Arnold Schwarzenegger has admitted he had an affair with the Danish actress during the early years of his relationship with Maria Shriver.
Shocking, we know.
Anyone up for the challenging task of finding a woman in Hollywood that Arnie hasn’t slept with?
The former California governor makes the revelation on the pages of his hotly-awaited autobiography, Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story, which will be released on Tuesday. Schwarzenegger’s confession comes more than a year after Brigitte originally blew the whistle on their “outrageous affair” in her 2011 memoir, You Only Get One Life.
Nielsen claims that although Schwarzenegger had been dating Shriver for nearly a decade at the time, she embarked on a passionate affair with the one-time bodybuilder during the making of their 1985 action epic, Red Sonja.
“Since we both knew that wouldn’t last beyond the movie, we didn’t hold back. We wanted to try everything and so we did. There were no restrictions, no promises, nothing and it was a great time in my life,” the ex-model wrote.
Brigitte — whose romantic conquests include Schwarzenegger’s good friend Sly Stallone, Oscar winner Sean Penn, and rap legend Flavor Flav — said she felt betrayed when she found out that Arnie had been two-timing her with Maria (or two-timing Maria with her, depending on who’s telling the story…), who he married a year later:
“How serious it was with her, I don’t know. He never spoke about her — and the way he was living his life with me, I felt I was the only one. Then I realized about him and Maria and, wow, I felt cheated. Maybe I wouldn’t have got into it if he said ‘I’m going to marry Maria and this is dead serious,’ but he didn’t and our affair carried on.”
The romance eventually ended and Nielsen wed Stallone later that year.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver announced their separation in 2010, shortly before the actor/politician confessed that he fathered a son after an affair with the family housekeeper in 1997. During an interview with 60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl set to air this Sunday, the actor-turned-politican calls the affair the “stupidest thing” he ever did in his marriage:
“I think it was the stupidest thing I’ve done in the whole relationship. It was terrible. I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids.”
