“Wipeout” Contestant Tom Sparks Dies
A contestant on ABC’s reality competition Wipeout died earlier this month after suffering a stroke on the set of the series.

Newlywed and recent college grad Tom Sparks, 33, was rushed to a local hospital complaining of knee pain and shortness of breath on an obstacle course on the show, a production source blabbed to TheWrap.com this week.
Tom was later transferred to Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where doctors reportedly performed multiple brain surgeries to save his life They were unsuccessful and Tom passed away on Nov. 5.
Medics blame a pre-existing condition for causing Tom’s stroke; he was found to suffer from antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, a disease that can cause blood clots. Sparks, a recent graduate of USC’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, was married just two months to wife Kate, also a contestant on Wipeout.
“We offer our heartfelt condolences to the family,” ABC and production company Endemol said in a joint statement. “This is a tragic loss and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
