Winona Ryder “No Hard Feelings” After Being Upstaged By Angelina Jolie In “Girl Interrupted”
Winona Ryder says she has no hard-feelings towards Angelina Jolie after the pouty-lipped beauty upstaged her in the 1999 drama Girl, Interrupted.
Winona played the lead role in the film about a teenager admitted to a mental hospital, but it was Angelina’s portrayal of neurotic patient Lisa that earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
“I knew from the outset that whoever played Lisa was going to get all the attention. At one point they asked if I wanted to play Lisa and I said, ‘No, I want to be Susanna’,” Winona revealed in an interview with Empire Magazine this weekend.
“But there was no resentment. When it came out people almost felt bad for me. But I expected it all along. I was really happy with the film, and really proud of it.”
Winona added that she was happy Angelina’s performance was so well-received by critics because “[Jolie] wanted very much to be taken seriously and not just judged on her looks and she conquered that.”

Anyway, WINONA is the real champion in that movie for getting the movie done. People tend to forget that she also acted as Executive Producer in that movie. It’s a labor of love. She wanted to give girls out there a chance to see a heroine who is not a hooker(think “Pretty Woman), who is real, and has real problems.
And Winona handpicked Angie to ply the part, so she knew se was gonna get upstaged from the get-go. It would have hard not to get upstaged by Angelina anyway. Her barracuda lips alone ook over the entire movie screen. Ha ha ha!!!!
