Whoopi Goldberg has cut her run on the West End production of Sister Act short after her mother — Emma –suffered a stroke this week. The Oscar winner had been set to depart her role as Mother Superior in the London show at the end of the month, but producers say the actress flew back to the States early Friday after learning of her mother’s grave condition.
“The thoughts and sincere best wishes of the producers and the entire ‘Sister Act’ company are with her at this difficult time,” they said in a statement.
Goldberg is a producer of the stage version of her hit 1992 movie about an on-the-lam lounge singer who hides out from her mobster boyfriend in a San Francisco convent.
Sister Act is due to open on Broadway next year.
