There’s life after The Hills for former reality starlet Whitney Port.
After calling it quits with her longtime beau just before the holidays, Whit’s using her expertise on men to select the creme de la creme of distinguished gentlemen in the new web reality soap Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend!
The eight-episode Hulu series, which premiered on Tuesday, features eight Ascot-lovin’ men who have dubbed themselves walking personifications of all of the qualities embodied by The Ken Doll, who turns 50 this year. Just like another self-respecting docu-comedy, Genuine Ken contestants duke it out in a series of elimination challenges each week to determined which guy has the qualities to be deemed the “ultimate boyfriend for every occasion.”
Port, along with guest judges such as Kenneth Cole and YouTube Star Michael Buckley of “What the Buck?” fame, will determine which guy possess the most Ken-like qualities.
“He’s getting a makeover to make sure he’s still as culturally and visually relevant as Barbie is. He’s getting a little work done to get ready for his 50th anniversary. With a 50-year history, you have people who have been embracing (Barbie and Ken) from day one. The series is a great way for us is to have grownup girls and boys stay connected to the brand,” says Stephanie Cota, Senior Vice-President of Mattel Girls brands, explains.
The winner of Genuine Ken will receive a modeling contract with Mattel, and a one-of-a-kind doll made in his likeness.
