“Valley Girl” Remake

A remake of the 1983 romantic comedy that made “Gag me with a spoon!” a cultural catchphrase is in the works.
MGM is developing a new version of the musical classic Valley Girl, which starred Deborah Foreman as Julie Richmond, a shallow but sweet girl from the Valley section of Los Angeles who embarks on a controversial relationship with Hollywood punk Randy, played by Nicolas Cage.
The film featured a popular New Wave soundtrack, which included tunes like Modern English’s “I Melt With You” and tracks by Josie Cotton, the Plimsouls, Men At Work, and the Psychedelic Furs.
The new movie will include classic songs from the 1980s, Variety reported Friday.
