Two years ago, the 5′4″ star was tipping the scales at 172 lbs., that’s more than 40 lbs. over her goal weight for her frame. But after just nine months of jogging, an healthier diet, and of course, Jenny Craig, Val’s down to 132 lbs.

Valerie hadn’t worn a bikini since she was 20 years old.

“I thought, If I’m so afraid of a bikini, there’s something wrong. And so I had to get back into one!,” the One Day at a Day star says in the new PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday.

Valerie celebrates her 49th birthday April 23.

I think she looks great – especially for her age. That’s where she kind of loses her desireability to me, though. I know it sounds sexist, particularly since I’m older than her. But let’s face it, given her history and her age (don’t make me get graphic), is she really sexually desireable? And isn’t that the whole point of having this great bikini body?
That said, I wish her all the best and congratulate her on getting back in shape and looking so fabulous. I should be so lucky.

That’s OK, Phil. Not for anything, but my guess is you’d probably not be “desirable” to her, either. ;-p

She did a good job getting into shape. It’s too much skin for the cover of a magazine, though. But I’m old fashioned and think a woman ought to keep her figure covered more; reveal it for her husband’s eyes only.
