US Mens Soccer barely escapes Antigua Barbuda in World Cup Qualifier
The US Men’s Soccer team began their quest for the 2014 World Cup qualifying tonight in Tampa, Florida.
The challenger, the tiny country of Antigua and Barbuda, population 89,000. US forward, Herculez Gomez saved the game with a 72nd-minute goal, putting some scoring distance between the US and Angtigua Barbuda. Tonight’s game was the first of 16 games that the US will play, before the 2014 World Cup. The US Men of course did not qualify to compete in the London Olympics later this summer.
Team US went into pool play, the top seed in their group. In addition to tonight’s appointment, they will face-off against Jamaica and Guatemala.
