Tonalist won the 146th running of the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park in Queen, New York on Saturday. The thoroughbred longshot galloped the familiar mile and a half long track, denying California Chrome at shot at becoming the first horse to win the Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes) since 1978’s Affirmed.

The spoiler was a big disappointment for racing fans and enough to leave Steve Coburn — Chrome’s, usually jovial, working class owner — incensed.
