Betty’s been benched!

ABC has just announced that it will place award-winning dramedy Ugly Betty on hiatus-indefinitely-beginning March 26.

New episodes of Samantha Who? and Megan Mullally and Cheryl Hines’ freshmen comedy In the Motherhood will replace Betty, an offbeat comedy about an aspiring writer and her daily struggles to survive Manhattan’s cutthroat fashion world, in the network’s Thursday night lineup.

“Ugly Betty will return to Thursday nights at 8 p.m. following the run of In the Motherhood and Samantha Who?,” the network said in a statement released to Entertainment Weekly on Monday.

“The Thursday night block is a good opportunity to launch these comedies,” an ABC spokesman says. “Betty is a solid performer and there is no question that it will definitely be back to complete its season, just without repeats.”

ABC has not announced when Ugly Betty will return to the air.

I am really pissed Ugly Betty is being “interrupted” by such stupid shows as Samantha Who?? Ugly Betty is the only comedy on t.v. that actually makes me laugh. Christina Applegate has been around for a looooong time. Let the young, fresh actresses shine!! I am so mad at ABC, I just may have to boycott the station !

Networks do this all the time with decently written shows and lose their viewers, I’ve watched the Samantha show and it just isn’t as good… stop trying to manipulate the viewers.. find another time for it.. why take Betty off.. put the new one with C. Hines on another time… Don’t mess with Betty. it’s a winner. I hope that others will boycott the network if this decision stays. It’s just nutty the way the programming moves good programs around.

The networks are their worst enemies. They get something good going and then they spoil it. Many good shows have seen their demise just because of bad choices in programming. Its hilarious, dramatic, exciting, suspensful, heart warming, and just all around amazing. The fact that it got put in to the abc friday death slot is just sad, and pretty much ensuring its cancellation. Betty needs to be back thursday nights, and it shouldnt be pushed into an early cancellation. The friday night spot is to ugly betty as the writters strike was to pushing daisies. This is just sad.
