The highly anticipated vampire romance Twilight sailed to the top of the box office this weekend, taking in $70.6 million during its three day debut.

Now the film’s young stars, Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have sequel news to share as their movie soars at the U.S. box office.

In a special email to sent to Twilight fans over the weekend, the two actors thanked filmgoers for their support and confirmed that the movie’s distributor, Summit Entertainment, is moving forward with a sequel entitled New Moon, based on the second novel in Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight literary trilogy.

“We just heard from Summit that we’ll be moving forward on ‘New Moon.’ We look forward to sharing this next chapter with you!” the email read. “From every city, every stop, every interview we have done, you’ve made this an unbelievable, nearly surreal experience…and so cool that we were all in this together.”

I understand they had to shorten the film because it’s a 400 and something page book, but i think they could have made it at least another 15-20 min longer. other than that it was wonderful. What I did not care for: Some of the facial expressions in the movie where a tad overdone. The love story needed a little beefing up in the middle. Taylor L. as Jacob.(He seems like a great kid and I would love to see what he does in future projects…..just not in this series.) Not enough of cullens…..give us more!

What I liked: The scenery was amazing. I thought the actors did a lovely job. The chemestry of the entire cast was great. A few scenes stick out: The Kissing scene…intense. The baseball scene….badass. Any scene that had charlie in it! I really felt that Bella and Edward were in love(but it needed a little something else thrown in).

The lack of “Hollywood” effects was a non issue for me due to the fact that I knew it was made on a smaller budget. I really look forward to New Moon, I just hope they keep the integrity of Catherine’s direction and Stephanie’s vision.

i am a grandmother in my fifties and i read “Twilight” to see what all the frenzy was about that excited my 14 year old grandson so much. i have to say i read the first of the series in three days and went on to read the next three books over the next six weeks. i was totally captivated and could not wait for the movie to come out. i was very impressed with the way stephanie meyer wrote without alot of bloodiness, violance, explicit sex, or cursing and made the book so interesting and a pleasure to read. i would recommend the first three books to any teenager 14 years and older but the last book, breaking dawn, is a little more intense. maybe for a 16 year old. i saw the movie and was not very impressed. too much info was left out and bella and edward’s meeting and dialoge needed to be dealt with a little more. the movie should have been at least 21/2 hours long. if i had not read the book i would have felt lost in the whole story telling. it jumped around too much and never quite connected the characters too well. robert pattinson did a good job as edward. he has the look, and he is quite sultry. but where were the sharp teeth in all these vampires? i guess my age says alot. old fashioned vampires stick in my memory. these new age ones are just not the same. and charlisle was not at all as i pictured him. he looked like a plastic Ken doll. and the rest of the characters were no where near as attractive as bella described them in the book. i did love the house the cullens lived in in the movie. it was like a treehouse. and the bad vampires were not bad enough. the relationship between bella and her dad, very awkward, should have spent a couple more minutes on that one. the First of a series of movies should have been fantastic, and, in my opinion, it just was not. alot of other things i did not like, but i am sure you have heard enough from me. make the next one better.
