Twitter traffic was through the roof Sunday, as the Seattle Seahawks took on the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. While the Broncos will go back to the Rockies without the coveted championship, it was a pretty big night for the mecca of microblogging.
Twitter stats show that the big game generated a whopping 24.9 million tweets, topping last year’s 24.1 million tweets. Naturally, some of the best Tweets were dedicated to Bruno Mars’ well-coiffed pompadour.
The most-tweeted moments from Super Bowl XLVIII:
1.) Seattle’s Percy Harvin’s 87-yard kickoff return in the third quarter, resulting in a touchdown and 381,605 tweets per minute (TPM).
2.) Wide receiver Jermaine Kearse catching a 23-yard touchdown pass near the end of the third quarter (271,775 TPM).
3.) Malcom Smith’s 69-yard interception return in the second quarter (244,889 TPM).
4.) Bruno Mars Halftime Show (229,533 TPM); Red Hot Chili Peppers/Bruno Mars duet of “Give It Away” (215,540 TPM).
Additionally, more than 50 million people discussed the game on Facebook, amassing more than 185 million interactions throughout the game.
