“Transformers 3″ Races To Billion-Dollar Mark At International Box Office

Seen anything good at the movies lately? Transformers: Dark of the Moon has raced past the magic $1 billion mark at the global box office. That easily makes the summer action hit the most successful Transformers movie to date, booting Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The Michael Bay film has grossed $338 million in the United States and a whopping $663 million internationally since its July release.

It’s a sure bet that 3D ticket sales have hugely boosted the threequel’s earning power. It’s also the third blockbuster recently to zip into the top 10 highest-grossing films list, following Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part II at No. 9 and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides at No. 7. Avatar, Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King remain the top three biggest films of all time, respectively.
