Showbiz dad Joe Simpson has never had a problem taking over the reigns of his oldest daughter’s life, and Jessica Simpson’s blossoming new romance with Dallas Cowboys’ QB Tony Romo is reportedly just another Papa Joe tactic aimed at saving Jess’ sinking career.

“It seems that Joe set them up to make sure Jess got good publicity. She’s got a new country album coming out, but her movie career is stalled, so she’s doing what her dad tells her will be good for her image and to keep her name in the papers,” a insider reveals to Star Magazine.

“He told Tony that is would be a good opportunity for both of them PR-wise. It isn’t hard for them to look like the perfect couple-they’re like a real-life Ken and Barbie. They’re both attractive and have Texas in common. Jess was born there, and Tony is Dallas’ football hero.”

“Having Jessica show up at Tony’s games is Joe’s idea, too.” And so far, Tony is “playing along.”

“He has a hot chick on his arm and lots of media attention. I know that he and Jessica enjoy each other’s company, and they have fun together. But it seems to be a relationship of convenience.”
