Former President Bill Clinton may have missed his chance for a primetime closeup, but another big guest star is stopping by the set of NBC’s 30 Rock. Insiders close to Tom Hanks have confirmed that the Oscar winner will be guest starring beside Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin on an upcoming episode of the popular Emmy-nominated comedy.
Hanks sent out a Tweet announcing the guest appearance earlier in the week. The actor joins a roster of high-profile 30 Rock guesters, which already includes the likes of Matt Damon, Will Ferrell, Sherri Shepherd, and Elizabeth Banks. The news of Tom’s big TV return is sure to sound like music to the ears of sitcom fans old enough to remember when Hanks got his big break with a starring role on the shortlived ABC series Bosom Buddies back in the early ’80s. That show was honored during the annual TV Land Awards in 2010.
We’re still waiting to hear an official airdate for Tom’s 30 Rock guest spot though.
March has shaped up to be a big month for Hanks. Forrest Gump was recently voted the greatest film character of all time in a new survey. Out of more than half a million films made by Hollywood, the character portrayed by Hanks in the critically-hailed 1994 fictional biopic ranked top in the biggest ever poll of moviegoers, beating James Bond and Scarlett O’Hara in the process. Gump — the tale of the extraordinary life of a dimwitted Southerner — enchanted filmgoers and earned Hanks the Oscar for Best Actor at the 1995 Academy Awards.
