Tom Cruise Dr. Drew Apology: Tom Cruise Comments Dr. Drew Playboy July 2008

Dr. Drew Pinsky has issued an apology to Tom Cruise on Thursday after the Loveline therapist, thrust into the limelight as of late thanks to hosting gig on VH1’s Celebrity Rehab, called the Risky Business star a psychotic Looney Tune (Not exactly in those words.) in a interview published in the current edition of Playboy.
“Dr. Drew meant no harm to Mr. Cruise and apologizes if his comments were hurtful,” Pinsky’s rep said in a statement.
The Cruise camp woke up steaming over Dr. Drew’s declaration in the July 2008 issue of Playboy Magazine that Cruise’s extreme Scientology beliefs could be a result of childhood “neglect:”
“A lot of people in the public eye who behave strangely have mental illness we can learn from, and much of it is based on childhood trauma, without a doubt. Take a guy like Tom Cruise. Why would somebody be drawn into a cultish kind of environment like Scientology? To me, that’s a function of a very deep emptiness and suggests serious neglect in childhood - maybe some abuse, but mostly neglect.”
Tom’s lawyer, Bert Fields, fired back in statement that compared Pinsky to a Nazi: “This unqualified television performer who is obviously just looking for notoriety is so grotesquely unprofessional as to pretend to diagnose Tom and others without ever meeting them. He seems to be spewing the absurdity that all Scientologists are mentally ill. The last time we heard garbage like this was from Joseph Goebbels.”
