I met with Andrew Morton half dozen times while he was writing his book. At lunch, he confided to me that Tom Cruise’s former high school coach had lot of dirt on Cruise, however, was not willing to offer it up without first getting Morton to commit to paying him lots of money and give him and his family the the red carpet treatment which, for starters, included flying him and his family to California and putting them up in a five star, Beverly Hills hotel. I asked Morton what he told the coach who replied, “I told him to f*k off.” Another time, when I met with Morton, he confided to me that he feared for his life. He said he was being threatened and followed. I offered to loan him a hand gun but he refused. Turning down the gun gave me a pretty good indication as to how seriously he really took those threats.
