Well, that was fast: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have reached a settlement in their shocking divorce.
Katie shocked celeb gawkers when she slapped Hollywood’s most devoted Scientologist with divorce papers last month. In her petition to the court, the Mad Money star requested sole custody of Suri.
After releasing a statement this morning, requesting privacy as they work out a custody agreement for their little girl, the Hollywood exes have come to an agreement.
“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests. We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents,” read a statement — released exclusively to People magazine — from Holmes and Cruise’s respective reps, Nanci Ryder and Amanda Lundberg.
Under two weeks after Katie filed for divorce, her lawyer confirmed the deal in a statement to People:
“The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed. We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life.”
“We thank Tom’s counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution,” her attorney Jonathan Wolfe continues.
Tom’s lawyer Dennis Wasser chimed in with:
“The case is settled. It is done!”
Tom is only days away from a reunion with young Suri. The celebutot will most likely remain with her mother in New York City for the foreseeable future, while Tom shoots back-to-back movies around the world.
