Tom Brokaw has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting his bone marrow blood cells.
The NBC news anchor’s career has spanned fifty years. In a statement released Tuesday, Brokaw, 74, noted that although the diagnosis is serious, his doctors are optimistic about his prognosis.
“With the exceptional support of my family, medical team and friends, I am very optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing my life, my work and adventures still to come. I remain the luckiest guy I know.”
The cancer, first spotted last summer, certainly hasn’t slowed down Tom’s stride. In addition to working on an upcoming JFK documentary, he’s also made recent appearances on Today, Meet the Press, Nightly News with Brian Williams and NBC’s coverage of the Sochi Winter Olympics.
