Quarterback Tom Brady, the soul of the New England Patriots, is finally opening up about his Feb. 26 wedding to supermodel Gisele Bündchen, and the high-profile couple’s decision to wed privately.
“We planned [the wedding] in like 10 days, and it was perfect,” Tom reveals in the December issue of GQ, on newsstands Nov. 24. “The thing about it is, the day’s for you. It’s nothing personal against anybody, but it’s not about them. It’s about what you and your wife need for that day.”
The two initially said “I do” in an intimate ceremony at Santa Monica’s Catohilic Church. Just immediate family were in attendance, including Brady’s then 18-month-old son with ex Bridget Moynahan, John.
After the ceremony, “we went back to the house and I barbecued aged New York strips. We had champagne, a cake, some ice cream. It was a great night,” Tom says.
Despite the hype surrounding large weddings, Tom was more than happy to keep his nups low-key: “I think you always have this idea that weddings need to be 200 people and you invite everybody, and I’m all for it if people want to do that… but I think there was really something special about just having our parents there.”
The couple wed again on April 4 on Gisele’s estate with more extended family. Tom and Gisele will welcome their first child together next month.
