Tito Jackson: Family Confronted Michael About Drug Use
Michael Jackson’s alarmed brothers and sisters staged an intervention and confronted the pop legend with their fears that he had developed an addiction to prescription drugs, according to the singer’s brother Tito.
In an interview with Britain’s Daily Mirror Wednesday, Michael’s older brother reveals that he and his siblings — Jackie, Randy, Janet, Rebbie, and La Toya — once raided the late star’s Neverland Ranch to confront him over rumors that he was addicted to drugs.
“We had to act. It was me, my sisters Janet, Rebbie and La Toya and my brothers, Jackie and Randy.”
“We bust right into the house and he was surprised to see us to say the least. We went into one of his private rooms and had a discussion with him. Some of us were crying,” Tito recalls. “We kept asking him if it was true what we had heard that he was using drugs.”
Although Jackson denied the rumours to his siblings and never let them see him on drugs, Tito, 55, said they were not convinced.
“I never saw him on drugs. Not once. He deliberately did it away from us. He didn’t want his family to know anything about that part of him. He did almost everything in his power to make sure we didn’t know.”
“I don’t know whether he was killed or not,” Tito says. “But I would say that sometimes he had people around him that were not in his best interests.”
Tito said they tried again to confront MJ about his perceived drug problem, but the star ordered his security team to keep his family away.
“After that occasion, we tried many times but his team of people just kept shutting us out, they would not let us close. They literally shut us out.”
The guitarist believes his brother should be buried at his former residence at Neverland Ranch, with the site turned into a tourist attraction for fans.
“Michael said he never wanted to live at Neverland again. He said he would visit, but he would never go and stay there as a residence. But I think that’s the place he would want to go now, it’s his legacy. I think he would want to share the whole thing. You can just feel his whole spirit there.”
