American automotive manufacturer General Motors has tapped television and film actor Tim Allen as the new voice of Chevrolet.

“Tim Allen brings the right combination of a recognizable voice with the credibility, likeability and humor that will connect with viewers,” Joel Ewanick, Vice President of US Marketing for General Motors, announced Tuesday. “His passion for all things cars makes him the perfect match for the Chevrolet brand.”

A Motor City native, Allen is best known for his work on the ’90s TV sitcom Home Improvement and in movies, including the Toy Story trilogy and The Santa Clause franchise. He is a lifelong car enthusiast and enjoys an extensive fleet of customized whips, including personally designed versions of a 1996 Chevrolet LT5 Impala SS and a 2000 Cadillac DeVille DTSi.

Tim’s Chevy ads were produced by Goodby, Silverstein and Partners and will include a total of four 30 second spots. Allen’s campaign kicks off with the newly-released television promo for the 2011 Chevrolet Cruze.
