They Are Twins Sisters, Yet One Is Black And The Other White

One girl has straight red hair with a light complexion and blue eyes. The other girl has a mass of curly hair, with a darker completion and her eyes are brown. With completely opposite looks it is hard to imagine that this beautiful duo are biological sisters, let alone that they are twins. The twin girls’ extreme difference in their appearance is due to them having a quirk of their mixed-race parentage.

twins The Twins, one of which was born white, the other black, have had to show their friends their birth certificates in order to prove that they are in fact sisters.

Donna, who is Lucy and Maria Aylmer’s mother, is half Jamaican and their father Vince is Caucasian, together the parents produced a set of twins who were as different as the parents.

The 18 year old girls were born in January of 1997. Their mother was amazed when she first saw her baby twins, since nothing, not even the  scans could have prepared her for their different ethnic looks.

Ginger-haired Lucy, who still lives with her family in Gloucester, commented on her mother’s reaction to their differences: “It was such a shock for her because things like skin color don’t show up on scans before birth. So she had no idea that we were so different. When the midwife handed us both to her she was just speechless.”

The 18-year-old sisters are the youngest of three siblings and according to Lucy: “Our brothers and sisters have skin which is in-between Maria and I. We are at opposite ends of the spectrum and they are all somewhere in-between.”
