“The X Factor” Returns with Record Low Ratings
Even Kelly Rowland’s washboard abs couldn’t save this sinking ship!
Despite the addition of the high-profile former girl bander and singer Paulina Rubio the third season premiere of Simon Cowell’s X Factor returned for a third season Wendnesday…and was seemingly met with a collective shrug from viewers.
According to Deadline Hollywood, The X Factor’s season debut was down 17 per cent from last year’s season premiere, cementing an all-time series low. The one-hour opener drew 6.2 million viewers, down from the 8.7 million viewers who gathered ’round the tube for Britney Spears’ debut as a talent show pundit in September 2012. Wednesday’s audience was just half of the 12.5 million folks who tuned in for the series’ much-hyped premiere two years ago.
The X Factor did manage to edge NBC’s Million Second Quiz (5.2 million) head-to-head, but was ultimately sunk by the CBS reality smash Big Brother (6.7 million).
