The ‘Star Wars’ Honest Trailer Is A Fan’s Honest Response to ‘A New Hope’

It’s only one month until the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and so Star Wars frenzy is in full swing. But that doesn’t stop even the most die-hard fans from picking on the franchise’s original movie.

The masterminds behind the Youtube channel Screen Junkies have taken on the original Star Wars movie (the one they won’t call A New Hope) for their series Honest Trailers, and despite my lifelong love for the movies, I have to admit that this particular honest trailer is exceedingly funny.

Honest Trailers makes fun of the first lightsaber battle between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi, remarking that it’s nothing more than “two old geezers who gently poke at each other.” They also remark on the ridiculous costume choices George Lucas made when he had a limited budget and no CGI. On the other hand, Lucas’ absolutely abhorred habit of releasing much-edited special editions of the original movie is also slammed: “Because if there’s one thing the original Star Wars wasn’t missing, it’s poorly-rendered, out-of-place CGI animals taking up every square inch of the frame!” I absolutely feel you, there.

And before you ask, yes, the Honest Trailer definitely addresses who shot first.

However, the funniest part of the trailer was the inclusion of a supercut of the final battle scene, a collection of all the dialogue that sounds way dirty. At the end, Michael Scott appears in a scene from The Office, and delivers his iconic catchphrase: “That’s what she said!”

It’ll make you want to watch the original trilogy all over again, which I’m sure is what the video’s makers actually intended.
