Front and center, reality fans, we’re getting our first peek at the couple who became infamous for gatecrashing President Barack Obama’s White House state dinner last November in their first commercial promo for the new Bravo docu-soap The Real Housewives of DC.
Earlier this month, Bravo confirmed that Michaele and Tareq Salahi will be the focal point of the series — the newest addition to the network’s wildy-successful Real Housewives franchise, which already shadows movers, shakers, and social climbers in New York, Atlanta, Orange County, California, and New Jersey.
According to The Washington Post, in addition to The Salahis, the rest of the cast includes:
-Mary Schmidt Amons: “The true Washingtonian and granddaughter of radio and TV personality Arthur Godfrey…”
-Lynda Erkiletian: “The mother hen and owner of D.C.’s top modeling agency…”
-Catherine Ommanney: “A feisty Bri married to a White House photographer….”
-Stacie Scott Turner: “Harvard grad, active political fundraiser….”
As a native Washingtonian, I find it interesting that in a city that is approximately 60% African-American and also boasts some of the largest concentrations of Salvadorans and Ethiopians in the country, Bravo selected one token person of color to cast on this program. The Washington suburbs are also home to a thriving East Indian community. This is the best the producers could do? Just an observation.
The Real Housewives of DC will debut on Thursday, Aug. 5 @ 9PM. Will you be watching?
