We have to take into account that this new Batman series is a new version and follows a new vision for the dark knight, that means that Batman villains have to be non-ultra commercial and well known actors such as Depp; Heath Ledger is a perfect example of how digging and giving an opportunity to 'alternative' actors can be something not only big, but gigantic and successful.

in the other hand, Hoffman sounds interesting.

Hugo Weaving was an inspired suggestion. Go watch a movie called "The Interview" if you dont think he can play the riddler after watching him in a battle of wits as a man hunted by a detective for murder that may or may not be guilty, you really dont know your cinema.

I am worried that Johnny Depp may be a bit to hollywood for The Riddler, but Hugo Weaving? No offense he's a great actor but he doesn't look the part at all! Hugo's more of a businessman looking actor like he was in "The Matrix" the only reason he worked out in "V for Vendetta" is because you never saw his face. I do agree Jim Carrey was a terrible Riddler, though. One thing i don't get is how you can think that Michael Keaton was the best batman, he was worse than Jim Carrey! In my opinion Christian bale was (and is) the best batman.

I would love Hugo Weaving to play The Riddler rather than Johnny Depp. The problem with Johnny Depp is HE'S TOO HOLLYWOOD. he's probably funny at times, but he'd definitely ruin the movie for us. and we'll eventually go see it because Johnny Depp is in it rather than just wanting to know WHAT HAPPENED NEXT. Johnny Depp will take away al the seriousness the sequel has been able to sustain so far. And we don’t wanna go back to the BATMAN FOREVER decade. We don’t need a JIM CARREY or a JOHNNY DEPP anymore. This is being recreated, like CHRISTIAN BALE mentioned. Lets focus on the story, not the actors. otherwise it'll be a failure, just like BATMAN & ROBIN (1997) because it was full of Hollywood stars. For me, MIICHAEL KEATON is still the best BATMAN of all. and by the way, just look at Hugo Weaving's great performance in V FOR VENDETTA. He's a true candidate. He does not have to be funny. We need someone like Hannibal Lecter in the SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. Some psychopath, leaving traces all over GOTHAM CITY, and letting BATMAN solve the riddles to it. This would be just fine, plus, it would be the first actual time we'll see BATMAN become the true detective he is.

Depp is fine for the Riddler but I think it's an unimaginative choice. Still, that's a tough character to cast. Riddler's personality isn't as tangible or archetypal as other Batman villains, which is why Depp is a great goto guy for this. He'll find something palpable about the character and amplify it. He could single handedly reinvent an otherwise forgettable character in the Batman milieu and own it forever. If he's as successful at realizing the new Riddler as Frank Gorshin was with the camp era Batman character then there's plenty to be excited abbout.

Hoffman is undeniable. Brilliant choice.

Noooooo!

It is premature to suggest that Depp will play Riddler. Nolan has passed over more obvious choices for Joker and will most likely do the same for Batman's next opponents.

I don't think Depp is right for The Riddler.

I think that the studios will respect Nolan's vision.
