The Avengers producers were banking on a monster hit…but a huge international opening combined with a whopping $207 million here in the US this opening weekend is putting the new marvel movie at $645 million already.
With numbers lie that, Avengers even topped Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, which opened to $169.2 million last summer, then the largest debut in history. The Hunger Games was holding the 2012 record, sitting at $617.7 million but now Avengers sets its sites on records held by Titanic.
No doubt these numbers have Disney executives thrilled, especially after the $200 million loss they took on the recent “blockbuster” John Carter.
Did you see Avengers this weekend? What did you think?
