The Foo Fighters  
The term “Foo Fighter” refers to balls of light seen by airmen during the pitched battles of World War II over Europe and the Pacific.  They are often explained away as a result of the fog of war or electrical discharge from the wingtips of planes.  However, as in the photo above where the balls of light are nowhere near a wingtip or battle, their prevalence has confounded conventional explanation.
