Any chance of jogging someone’s memory for the author- title of this story?? A detective hunts a missing person and after several mysterious encounters & adventures, clues emerge that alien abductions seem to be involved. At the end it is revealed that the “abductors” are mutated humans from the future. The abductions are to insure a specific group of people are gathered in a certain location that escapes an imminent alien attack. That attack destroys the human race leaving only this remnant to survive and eventually triumph albeit at the cost of mutating themselves in order to fight the alien race. Any help is appreciated!

I’m trying to remember the name/author of a book about a man who moves into an old Victorian house in New York City – he only time travels back to the Victorian period when it snows. I think this ~30-year-old book involves a murder mystery. Info would be very appreciated.

These are probably all very well written books that are high up on the artistic scale, but what about time travel for us common folks. How about the “Time Wars” series by Simon Hawke. Also, the “High Tech Knight” series by Leo Frankowski is very intreguing.

Scifi aficionados, I need your help! I’m looking for the names of two science fiction stories on time travel that appeared in anthologies in the period 1968 to 1972. One was just a great story, the other precipitated a mental breakdown that required medication to recover from. The former involved a time-travel battle between a malevolent self-aware computer and a human programmer. The second is mercifully forgotten, other than the recommendation from the friend who handed me the book: “This one will twist your mind.”

I never see Dean Koontz’ Lightning on any of these lists, but it’s by far one of the best genre stories I’ve read. A friend of mine kept insisting I read it, and I kept declining because Koontz isn’t considered an SF writer. How wrong I was. I read it in one long session because I couldn’t wait to see what happened next, and the ending was heart-stopping.
