The CMA Entertainer of the Year is also the AMA Artist of the Year. The King of Pop was honored with four American Music Awards on Sunday night, but it was 19-year-old country star Taylor Swift who was honored as “Artist of the Year”.
The “Fearless” star won five of the six awards she was nominated for at tonight’s ceremony at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles, even beating out Michael Jackson for the top prize in the fan-voted awards show.
“Music has never been ultimately about competition, and to be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson is an incredible honor.” She also thanked the Jackson family after receiving the night’s biggest honor.
Taylor Swift is currently across the pond in London, where she’ll be performing a concert on Monday, November 23. After she was announced the winner of the Favorite Pop/Rock Female award, the country singer was beamed in via satellite to thank her fans for the award — despite the fact that it was already 2AM in Britain: “I will never be able to say how much I love you,” Taylor — who also earned statuettes for Favorite Adult-Contemporary Artist and Favorite Country Female — told her fans.
Also missing from tonight’s show? Beyonce, who won a prize for Favorite Female Soul/R&B artist. The “Sasha Fierce” singer is currently on tour in Dublin.
