Fans of gyrating teenagers in suspender stockings will be thrilled to learn that Taylor Momsen has formally “retired” from acting to focus solely on becoming a full-time pantless rocker. Momsy’s putting her days on the small screen behind her in favor of her music career, the former Gossip Girl starlet, 18, explains. Taylor, lead singer for The Pretty Reckless, let it slip in an interview with Elle Magazine’s September issue that she’s sooo done playing Jenny Humphrey and has instead decided that rock ‘n’ roll is her true destiny.
“I quit acting, actually,” she tells Elle. “I quit Gossip Girl and now tour and am in a band and that’s pretty much all I want to do. Hopefully I’ll be able to only do that for the rest of my life.”
Taylor — who you may remember as Cindy Lou Who in 2000’s The Grinch — is garnering a reputation for being something of a bad girl. You know, between accusing her parents of giving her a miserable childhood and admitting that she carries knives, and all. She also attracted headlines about her, err, interesting wardrobe, onstage antics and foul-mouthed interviews. Taylor’s relationship with The CW drama that catapulted to stardom ended in May, when she and Jessica Szhor were not renewed as series regulars. It’s not the only gig Taylor lost this year. Back in January, she was replaced by Kelly Osbourne as the face of Madonna and daughter Lourdes’ Material Girl fashion line.
“Music is all I ever wanted to do with my life,” she told another magazine in April. “I wanted to make records and tour, so it’s very exciting that our first record is coming out and people can actually hear it.”
What do you think about Taylor’s decision to retire from the Upper East Side?
