Taylor Hicks is headed for the Great White Way. The grey-haired crooner, who won the fifth season of American Idol, will join the Broadway cast of Grease on June 6, The Associated Press reports.

Taylor, who was dropped from the J Records roster earlier this year due to poor album sales, is set to play Teen Angel in the musical.

With Clay Aiken (Season 2), Fantasia Barrino (Season 3), and now Taylor all having hit the stage in New York City’s famed Theater District, Broadway is quickly becoming Idol’s new dumping ground.

Theater fans can expect an imaginitive approach to the role, as Taylor says he plans to add “soulful flavor” to his performance of “Beauty School Dropout.”

“It’s a big number, and, you know, I’ve made some pretty grand entrances before. … And this one is probably the grandest entrance I’ve made in my career,” Taylor says.
