‘Tangled’ Is Coming To Disney As An Animated Series With Original Cast, New Music

Tangled, the hit film from Disney will have its own show shortly. It was not the box office and worldwide smash hit that Frozen was, yet surprisingly it was the first one to get a TV show.

Despite not being the most popular of the Disney princess films, Tangled set the stage for CGI princesses and was certainly popular in its own right. The film was released in 2010 and featured the reimaging of the tale of Rapunzel, and similarly to Frozen, it had multiple catchy songs to sing along to.

The Disney tale featured the voices of Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, respectively. In a move that does not happen often, they will be lending their voices to the TV show as well and the early stages of production are already underway.

Mandy Moore shared her excitement about returning to the role this morning, encouraging her co-star as well.

Tangled, the animated TV series, will be set between the events of the original film and the start of the 2012 short film Tangled Ever After. It begins with her getting to know her parents, her kingdom and the people of the land where she lives.

The film was a big success when Disney released it in 2010 around Thanksgiving time similarly to Frozen, earning $591.79 million at the international box office. It was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Feature, although it didn’t win.

Another important element to note is the fact that Alan Menken, known for his many musical scores, will be returning for the TV series. In addition to Tangled‘s music, he did the music for Beauty And The Beast, The Hunchback Of Notre Dame, and many others.

Tangled could be what it takes to bring back the great animated series that used to air on the Disney channel as the films continue to be hits, but the studio has been lacking in original shows in recent years. The series will start in 2017.
