Susan Boyle has turned down a chance to meet President Barack Obama.
The Britain’s Got Talent singing sensation was invited to the White House Correspondents’, a star-studded $200-a-ticket black-tie event that supports the needy and helps fund journalism scholarships. Saturday night’s affair at the Washington Hilton welcomed such celebs as Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Stephen Spielberg -but Susan had to say no.
A rep for the reality competition told says Susan “was invited by numerous networks… to be a guest at the event,” but that show rules prevented her from attending.
“None of the acts are allowed to go [overseas] for any events until the show is over so we had to decline on her behalf,” the rep said.
The 48-year-old Scottish church volunteer wowed the world with her jaw-dropping performance of the Les Misérables song “I Dreamed a Dream” on the UK talent show last month.
A Susan source tells News of the World: “She was shocked and thrilled by the invite…She knows she would have been incredibly nervous if she’d gone. But her dream is to sing for President Obama one day. She loves him and thinks he is already a terrific president.”
Susan Boyle will appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show this Monday, May 11.
