MTV executives spent weeks trying to get Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle to perform at tonight’s 2009 MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles — to no avail.

Executives had hoped to get the YouTube sensation — who came in second behind dance troupe Diversity on Saturday night’s finale of Britain’s Got Talent (BGT) — would be able to perform live at the awards show — but BGT bosses nixed the idea.

“We tried to get her. I wanted her here, but they’ve got a pretty strict contract over there,” host Andy Samberg said on Friday.
