Supergirl Costume Revealed – New Details For Upcoming Series Starring Melissa Benoist

Melissa Benoist reveals Supergirl costume

Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl costume has just been revealed for her upcoming series. Benoist was cast only this January, but she’s clearly already taking the role to heart, tweeting about her co-stars and filming — and today, she shares with us the costume she’ll be wearing in her role as Supergirl.

Benoist began tweeting about the role as soon as she was announced as the star, beginning with a longing for a cutesy digital representation of the part.

On Friday, Benoist had something really exciting to share: images of herself, in her Supergirl costume.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the series will follow Supergirl’s alter ego, Linda Danvers. She’s the cousin of the more well-known Superman — she’s also from Krypton, and was raised on Earth by a couple who taught her to keep her powers quiet.

There are rumors that the show’s plotlines might be worked to tie into The Flash and Arrow — and Greg Berlanti, scriptwriter for both of those shows, will also be writing for Supergirl.

Aside from Benoist, who you may know as Marley Rose, from Glee, the cast includes Calista Flockhart, as Cat Grant, and Grey’s Anatomy‘s Chuyler Lee as Alexandra Danvers. Dean Cain, Helen Slater, and Faran Tahir are also all cast for the pilot.

CBS promised EW two months ago that the Supergirl costume would be awesome. At the time, they hadn’t even announced who would be in the role of Supergirl, but CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler said that whoever was picked, would have to be a kind of ‘everywoman,’ and

…someone who embodies both the freshness and the exuberance of being a young woman in today’s challenging climate and being someone who can carry this kind of series on her shoulders.

She also assured that, while the actress wasn’t picked, the costume was, and that she had seen it. She assured the audience repeatedly that the costume was awesome.

Melissa Benoist fits the bill perfectly — and her Supergirl costume is every bit as awesome as promised.
