Stevie Nicks vs. Britney Spears
She’s covered rock classics like Joan Jett’s “I Love Rock N’ Roll” and The Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction,” but Britney Spears isn’t a real rock star–at least not in Stevie Nicks’ book.
The Fleetwood Mac frontwoman, 60, takes issue with pop tarters, like Britney, who gain instant fame without having to put in the hard work she once did.
“You have to pay your dues to be a real rock star,” she told Extra on Friday. “It’s different in that Britney did not join a band when she was 18 and practice every day for five hours Monday through Friday and then play gigs Friday, Saturday and Sunday.”

Old stoners like Stevie are so funny when they talk about all the dues that were paid back in the olden days. Nobody, and I mean nobody in a rock band practiced 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. We might have hung out in the studio or somebody's apartment all day and played every once in a while, but nobody was as motivated as Stevie is laying claim to.
For one thing, the voice cannot take that much abuse. For another, too many band members are layabouts and are not going to practice till their fingers bleed every day of the week. We used to practice until the case of Coors was gone, so it was about 2 hours, tops.
Britney's not a real rock star because no real rock fan would buy a ticket to see her. That's the bottom line. I'd buy a ticket to see Stevie, not because her act is so polished from a bunch of practice, but because she ROCKS, man!
