Steven Tyler Rehab Painkiller Addiction
Rock legend Steven Tyler has entered a rehab to seek treatment for an addiction to prescription painkillers.
Steven Tyler’s ready to “walk this way” to rehab…..
The Aerosmith frontman, 61, checked into a facility for pain management and dependency on painkillers, stemming from years of orthopedic injuries, says PEOPLE.com. Tyler battled drug addiction in the ’70s and ’80s and has entered treatment facilities at least twice over the years to curb his appetite for illegal substances.
Tyler’s performance injuries, sustained over the past decade, have reportedly left him in chronic pain and will require additional surgeries on his knees and feet, according to his physician Dr. Brian McKeon.
“With the help of my family and team of medical professionals, I am taking responsibility for the management of my pain and am eager to be back on the stage and in the recording studio with my bandmates Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford,” the animated “Dream On” said in a statement Tuesday.
Steven’s rehab announcement comes less than six months after he injured his shoulder after falling from a stage during a live show last August. In the months since the fall, Steven became prone to behavior even more odd than usual — including abandoning the band he founded more than 30 years ago, lead guitarist Perry said in October.
“I love Aerosmith; I love performing as the lead singer in Aerosmith,” Steven said in today’s release. “I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of.”
The rocker’s daughter, actress Liv Tyler, assures fans that her famous father has the support of his loved ones as he makes another go at going straight: “My family and I are in complete support of my dad’s decision to seek treatment. He is a courageous man. We love him and are so proud that he is getting help to balance his pain management, not just for himself but for his family, friends and fans.”
