Viva not so forver…Spice Girls-inspired musical Viva Forever! is reportedly in danger of being axed just a month into its run due to poor ticket sales.
The production has been on the receiving end of a torrent of bad reviews since opening at the Piccadilly Theatre on London’s West End in December. Now snoops tell Britain’s Daily Star that the musical based on the tunes of the biggest girl group of the ’90s is struggling to find an audience. You didn’t hear it from us, but squeals dish that each nightly showing is usually only “three-quarters full.”
Ouch — but with biting commentary like this to contend with, that’s hardly a surprise:
“I’ll tell you what I wanted, what I really, really wanted — I wanted this terrible show to stop,” The Telegraph wrote of Viva Forever!
The Daily Mail piqued up with:
“[It's] so drudgy, so sour and focused on failure. [It has] the makings of a notable West End flop. It’s almost as if the thing has a death wish.”
For their part, show producers blame the season for any shortcomings.
“The West End takes a dip this time of year. But the show is doing really well,” according to a spokesperson for producer Judy Craymer.
