Jersey Shore loudmouth Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi speaks candidly about her struggles with food on the pages of the Sept. 27 edition of OK! Magazine.
Snooki became dangerously thin in high school while a potentially-lethal combination of anorexia and bulimia. Polizzi — who spends her days knocking back Mojitos and terrorizing beachgoers — dropped to a terrifying 80 pounds due to the eating disorders.
She barely ate meals other than lunch — and even then she chose only salads.
“I would go into the nurse’s office every day and I would weigh myself. When [the school nurse] realized that I hit 80lbs she was like ‘This isn’t good,'” Polizzi confides.
Snooki, now 22, believes she fell victim to eating disorders because she compared herself to younger, thinner cheerleaders at her school in Poughkeepsie, New York.
“I was a cheerleader and you had freshmen girls coming up that were so tiny. I think that’s why I had a problem. It got really bad.”
The diminutive reality star — stands just 4’9″ tall — said she overcame her weight obsession after her school told her parents about her troubling eating habits.
“My parents told me ‘You need to eat, this is very dangerous.’ So I gained my weight back to like 98lbs, where I always was. I think I just realised that having a problem – an eating disorder – it’s not healthy and you can actually die from that. I realised it’s not worth it and you just need to be healthy.”
