“Slumdog” Kids Get New Homes

Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle and the trust he set up are purchasing new homes for the stars of the Oscar-winning film.
Once under fire for not doing enough for its impoverished Indian child stars, the makers of Slumdog Millionaire said on Wednesday they had bought a flat for Azharuddin Ismail, 9. The young actor, who played the character of Salim as a child, had his Mumbai shanty home demolished by the Indian government earlier this month.
Boyle is in the process of purchasing a home for Rubina Ali as well, who plays the young Latika.
“They were given access to a world, an extraordinary and glamorous world, and they understandably want their lives to be completely transformed,” the British filmmaker told reporters after a meeting with Ali and Ismail in Mumbai on Wednesday.
“The homes are a concern. That is one of the reasons why we built the trust.”

This guy is unbelievable; how many months has it been since the movie was released and he still hadn’t provided new housing for these families until forced to by public opinion when their shacks were destroyed? What is the money in the trust fund doing there still, Boyle?
