“Sixteen Candles” Sequel

One-time “Brat Packer” Molly Ringwald says she would love to star in a sequel to her classic teen comedy Sixteen Candles. The story of awkward high-schooler Samantha Baker, whose family forgets her sixteenth birthday, catapulted Molly to teen stardom in 1984. In a new interview with AOL Television, the actress urged director John Hughes to do a follow-up to the cult favorite.

“I think that Sixteen Candles lends itself to [another film]. It was such a Cinderella story. And I was interested to see what happened to this girl.”

“It was something that I definitely wanted to do but John Hughes wasn’t interested, and I didn’t feel comfortable doing it without his involvement,” she says. “If we can get John to agree, I think it would be great. I think there are definitely a lot of people who would love to see it, and I would love to do it.”

Molly, now forty, is currently starring on the television drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager, airing Mondays on ABC Family.
