The musical adapation of the animated film Shrek opened on Broadway Sunday night.

The musical, based on Oscar-winning Dreamworks film, tells the story of the swamp-dwelling ogre who falls in love with a beautiful princess.

Entertainers including Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, America Ferrera, Ben Stiller, and Rosie Perez showed up out to watch the opening night performance of Shrek: The Musical at the Broadway Theatre in New York.

A fourth Shrek film will open in 2010.

Cameron, who voices Princess Fiona in the Shrek film franchise, gave the musical adaptation of the animated blockbuster rave reviews, but when asked whether she’d consider portraying Fiona on stage, she said: “No. Absolutely not. What they do up there … is, to me, impossible. It’s wonderful, though. They’ve done such a great job. They worked really hard, and it really pays off.”
